Employee Spotlight: Chris Ducote

Can you share a brief overview of your career path and how it led you to your current role? 

Having spent most of my life around computers, I always had a clear inclination towards technology. This interest led me to pursue a career in the field. I attended General Assembly’s Full-stack Web Development course, where I deepened my understanding of both front-end and back-end development. This experience enabled me to seamlessly combine my soft skills, technical knowledge, and a strong passion for helping others. It carved a straightforward path for my career, aligning perfectly with my goals and allowing me to contribute effectively in the tech world. 

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The most gratifying aspect of my job is undoubtedly the opportunity to assist and be of service to others. Whether it's solving a complex problem or addressing a simple query, I find immense satisfaction in going above and beyond for our customers to ensure their happiness. Every support issue presents itself as not just a challenge, but as another valuable opportunity to help someone out. In doing so, I not only contribute to their positive experience but also gain insights and learn from each unique situation. This process of continual learning and helping others is what truly enriches my professional life. 

What's one thing you've learned since starting at this company?

How great yoga is! A colleague of ours, Lauren, who is a skilled yoga instructor, hosts a beginner-friendly yoga class every Wednesday at Noon. Initially, I was a bit hesitant, but after receiving a couple of invites, my curiosity piqued, and I finally decided to give in and give it a try. The experience was surprisingly refreshing. It’s incredibly beneficial, especially for someone like me who spends most of the day at a desk. The gentle stretches and mindful breathing techniques have not only helped in reducing physical strain but also in enhancing mental clarity and relaxation. This weekly practice has become a much-anticipated part of my routine, offering a perfect midweek break to rejuvenate."

How do you balance work and personal life?

I always strive to align my career and responsibilities with my passions and interests. It's important to me that my professional life not only challenges me but also resonates with my personal values and aspirations. Being a part of something that contributes to a greater cause or community is deeply gratifying. This connection to a larger purpose makes my work more meaningful and fulfilling. Additionally, it greatly aids in achieving a seamless work-life balance. When my career is interwoven with my interests and passions, it blurs the line between work and pleasure, making my professional journey an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in your field?

Remain teachable and embrace what genuinely interests you, following that path wherever it may lead. Keeping an open mind to career opportunities has been crucial for me. It helped me understand that my initial career plans were not as fulfilling as I had expected. By being open to new experiences, I've found unexpected joy and fulfillment in my work. This sense of discovery and the willingness to try new things have been fundamental in shaping a career that I truly enjoy and feel fortunate to have.

What’s something not many people know about you? 

I know way too much about niche fragrances and perfumery. This year I got far into everything there is to know about Fragrances and their qualities, who makes them, how their made, and all the french terms commonly associated with them. I love helping friends find their signature scents when they are interested in looking!

Most favorite place you ever visited and why or what place would you like to visit one day? 

I've had the opportunity to visit both during the cold months and in the summer. While each season has its own appeal, I have a strong preference for the summer. The warmer months in Holland are simply stunning, with lush landscapes and vibrant city scenes. The weather is perfect for outdoor activities like walking or bike riding.

What motivates you?

Mentoring, coaching, teaching, and learning new things every day. I coach a small professional esports team during the game season, and it’s a lot of fun being a part of a team of young, talented individuals I get to work with and develop their skills. We managed to be in the top 6 teams in North America at what we do, and it’s very rewarding to achieve 2 consecutive years after where we’ve been.
